MSL guitar: Credits

Musicians and Recording team

Most of the phrases in the MSL guitar collection were played by Kai Reuter. Kai's strengths are his vast stylistic bandwidth and his creative use of a wide variety of different guitars and amplifiers. He played the acoustic guitars in the "In Scale“, "Laid Back“ and "Steeled“ folders as well as the electric guitars in the folders "Funk ’n’ Roll“, "BlueRocks“, "Freestyle“, "Hi Gain“, "In Fusion“, "60s“, "Slow Bend“, "Sustainment“ and "Tremolo“.

Gibson ES 335

In the course of the various sessions, Kai played a Fender Stratocaster and a Rockinger Strat (both with EMG pickups), a Gibson ES 335 stereo, a Yamaha APX7 acoustic guitar, and a Steinberger with TransTrem and EMG pickups. He used the following amplifiers: a Fender Twin, a JMP1 Marshall preamp, a Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier, a VOX AC30 and a Rivera Bonehead.

When it came to miking the amplifiers, the characteristics of the room as well as the orientation and distance from the speakers of the microphones were of crucial importance, with Sennheiser E609 and Audio Technica AT4040 mikes handling the lion's share of the recording.

The jazz material of the MSL guitar was contributed by Andreas Jaeger playing an Epiphone Imperial Regent. All the funk phrases were played by Joerg Putzig and are derived from the Ueberschall VLP120 production. The other guitarists featured are Dirk Rogon, Johannes Uhlmann and Hanz Marathon.
