Gareth Jones

Being in the industry for over 30 years now, Gareth Jones has used many different devices and all kinds of software. But he's quick to note that, for all its developments and his pioneering use of it, technology is just a tool – good music has always been, and will remain, about ideas.

Gareth's first job was at the BBC in the mid-70s, where he gained plenty of engineering experience. His work in different studios led to his first album as a producer – the synthesizer milestone Metamatic by John Foxx. When Depeche Mode wanted some fresh sounds on their third album Construction Time Again, Gareth was there to help with the new sampling technology. The album featured massive hits like Everything Counts, and its success started a relationship between the band and Gareth that resulted in many albums.

Since then, he's worked with dozens of bands and musicians including Nick Cave and Erasure among others, scored numerous gold and platinum albums and, more recently, worked with new indie darlings like Mogwai and Top 10 US album chart-hitters Grizzly Bear. In fact, the only constant in his career has been his ability to stay on top of the rapidly evolving music technology of the last three decades, and Melodyne has been a part of this process ...
