    Hello Everyone,

I’m a total Newbee with Melodyne Editor. I am finally making the change from my ATR-1 (Hardware version of Antares, Auto Tune) Yes, I hear the laughter . . . lol

I’m Old School. I partnered in a small project studio27 years ago running a 1" 16-track tape machine. Before that I owned a small sound reinforcement company for 6 years. I’m not a computer whiz-tech type at all. I use computers every day and I can install hard drives, memory modules and odd computer cards but that is about it.

I didn’t know much about Melodyne until my studio partner bought the Editor (Ver. 1) a few years back. I didn’t pay much attention since my ATR-1 unit was doing the job I needed done. I stayed away because I didn’t want to tackle the initial learning curve required to use a software. I just assumed its something very similar to Auto-Tune . . . NOT.

After checking out some videos I realized Melodyne is a completely different animal. I’m blown away with all its capabilities ! I am going to update our Melodyne Editor to Version 2 since an update is offered here.

    However . . . I have a few questions.

My set up is based on two Roland VS2480. Each unit is a stand alone 24 track digital workstation, sync-ed together. I’m using an Alesis HD24 as my A/D interface. I also have a studio computer (PC) that runs Sonar 3, Soundforge 10 and BIAB 2012 through a Cakewalk interface to my stand alone Roland DAW. In this area, I guess I’m still behind the times because my DAW is not computer based.

Question #1: Sync’ing in stand alone mode
I will be using Melodyne Editor as a stand alone. I don’t see a way to sync it to my external DAW using MTC (Midi Time Code).
Is Melodyne Editor in stand alone mode unable to sync to MTC ??

    Question #2: Sync’ing
My Sonar 3 is so old, I don’t think it supports “plug-ins”. Which leaves me with Soundforge 10.
Do I HAVE TO use Melodyne Editor as a “plug-in” to sync to the outside world with MTC ??

    Question #3: Video Tutorials
I went through the “Download” page to view the video tutorials but I would like to download them so I can put them on a flash drive to view them without the internet.
HOW do I download the tutorials ??

    Question 4: Mono or Stereo
I understand that Melodyne Editor is a single track editor. I would expect it to be mono when its used as a “plug-in” but
when used as a stand alone, is this “single track” a Stereo track or the more traditional Mono track ??

    Thanks everyone

    Ed

    Hello Producer Yoda,

Welcome to our forum, and sorry for my late reply. I will try to answer your questions.

The only Melodyne edition with an MTC option is Melodyne studio. See also this recent thread.

See above, there is no MTC option in Melodyne editor. But as I mention in the other thread, using a third-party DAW with MTC and hosting the plug-in variant of Melodyne editor in it could be a decent workaround.

There is no download option on our pages, I'm afraid. We try to always have the latest video versions online. If we offered them as downloads, this might soon result in outdated videos being spread on the internet. That's why we decided against it.

This has nothing to do with mono or stereo. We offer one multi-track edition, i.e. Melodyne studio, and three single-track editions, i.e. Melodyne editor, Melodyne assistant, and Melodyne essential. The latter are designed for single tracks in mono or stereo. It's the same for both the plug-in and the standalone variant.

    Does this help?

    Claudio,

    Thanks for your reply.

After a few hours of experimenting I now know that plug-in way is the only way to sync to the outside world. Looks like I'm going to have to buy an upgrade for my Sonar 3 to Sonar X1. Its a $150 investment I was hoping to postpone till later. I'm quite sure Melodyne will work fine with it.

Too bad about the video tutorials but I understand your position. My internet connection is often slow even though its a broadband cable. I guess I'll have to live with it.

I have a funny feeling I'm going to eventually end up upgrading to the Studio version.

Anyone want to buy a hardware version of Auto Tune ?? . . .

    Thanks
    Ed
