Melodyne does not seem to detect the pitch of some notes when sung in a rough voice (screaming, gravelly, whatever you want to call it.) In fact, it usually selects the polyphonic algorithm when analyzing a file, and I have to select melodic myself.

Even if I select the note assignment tool, there are some notes that can't be assigned to the correct pitch. If I drag the note to where it should be, it pops back up or down to some other note.

Melodyne is also detecting very large pitch variations in many of the notes. Sometimes there are short spikes in pitch shown in the middle of sustained notes.

In these cases I am often able to correct the notes by ear if I manually adjust cents until it sounds right, even though it's not displayed at the correct pitch. However, when I need to change the melody, by breaking up blobs and changing their pitch, there are usually a lot of artifacts. I can play around with pitch modulation, pitch transition, etc. but it often has an unnatural sounding result, because the large variations in detected pitch don't blend well. There are often "glitches" where the pitch spikes up or down between the notes I am trying to create.

I realize this style of singing is probably very challenging for Melodyne to detect, but it is what I am usually working with. Any tips would be appreciated.

    Hello wesmorrison,

Before we start giving advice, which Melodyne edition is this? Melodyne cre8 (as your profile says) or one of the more recent singletrack editions? Also, which version?

Oh! Updated my profile. Just bought Melodyne Editor as an upgrade to the version I got several years ago bundled with an audio interface. Not sure why cre8 was in there.

Melodyne Editor 2.1.0. I usually run it rewired to FL Studio. (FL doesn't let you resize a plugin once it's loaded, so rewire is the only way I can run Melodyne Editor full-screen while synced to my DAW.)

    Hello,

Have you got a sound example of where Melodyne detects wrong notes and refuses to let you correct them in Note Assignment mode?
