Has anyone used Melodyne with fretless bass? I'm working with a bass player who is generally very in tune. However, there are a few notes and vibratos I'd like to alter, and I was wondering how well Melodyne deals with slides.

    Thanks

Hi. I'd say, if there is a pitch correction software out there that can deal with slides, it would definitely be Melodyne. The cool thing about Melodyne is that you can tweak pitch, pitch modulation, pitch drift, pitch transitions - all independently without affecting the others. You can even create your own slides.

There's a free demo version available. Get it and try for yourself. Or watch some videos to get a deeper insight.

I frequently use Melodyne Editor to tidy-up monophonic violin and viola parts, across many musical genres. It's like a magic wand :-) It's nearly always convincing, with very few audible artefacts. It's tolerance to typical fiddle performance nuances is great....except where multiple strings are being 'slided or bent' concurrently.

I would expect fretless bass, being generally monophonic, would also give a fair chance of success.

But, should anybody ever need to ask - perhaps unsurprisingly, I have never had much success with Melodyne on pedal steel guitar or Dobro/lap steel.
