    Melodyne essential
I use Logic Pro 9 & Melodyne Essentials.During transfer & playback into Melodyne, some tracks have high input level going up to red on the level meter in Melodyne. How do i reduce the input level? Reducing the volume on the channel strip in Logic does not seem to change anything.I even tried bypassing plugins I use on that track but unable to control the input level.
    Any help on this?

    Hello JCcares,

This is a Logic question rather than a Melodyne question, I believe. Melodyne doesn't have an input level control, so you need to find a way to lower the level in Logic. If you play the track with all plug-ins disabled, does it clip in the Logic mixer already?

If this doesn’t help, what kind of file is this? Have you recorded it yourself? Have you increased its volume somewhere, e.g. in Logic’s Sample Editor?

Finally, are you familiar with the Gain plug-in in Logic? If you insert it before Melodyne, you should be able to reduce the incoming volume level.

You can also take the volume down in Melodyne. Set the volume in the Melodyne plug-in lower so it doesn't go on the red. When you bounce down the reduced volume will be kept as low as you have set it.

Besides using the Gain plug-in in Logic, you can normalize the file in the Sample editor if the signal is to hot before transfer.

That's exactly what you should not do - that control only changes Melodyne's OUTPUT; if the INPUT is too hot it must be changed somehow BEFORE transfer, as Claudio suggests.

No, as long as the signal remains in the digital domain, it doesn't matter if you adjust the signal with the gain plug-in, Melodyne plug-in or normalize the audio in the Sample Editor. You won't get distortion. When you bounce down however, then the signal must not be to high.

Otherwise compressors and limiters wouldn't work distortion-free either because they adjust "input signals" that are digitally to hot. The Melodyne transfer won't add any distortion and will adjust the signal as any other volume control.

However if you have extremely high input levels 5-6 db on the red it can become a problem editing, cause the blobs will still reflect the amplitude but in no way alter the audio quality.

You can reduce gain in Logic prior to plug-ins in the the channel strip. In the upper part you'll find a small drop-down triangle with "gain". This will adjust volume for that region. Stop playback and drag up/downwards (to the right of it) to adjust the level.
