    Hi there
I have some poor quality D.I recorded guitar that was done on an early Roland VS2480 which had faulty pre amps and has hence caused some distortion and a hard sound. Whatever I seem to do to the sound it still sounds awful.

So, I have imported the guitar track into the stand alone Melodyne Editor with the intention of converting the file to midi and then triggering a midi guitar amp simulator. Unfortunately, Melodyne doesn't always seem to recognise notes that may be an octave apart or same octave but different strings. It also seems to greatly simply the track when saved to midi. My questions are: Is the ability to recognise these note differences as well as saving all the notes to midi, likely to be available in a near future Melodyne upgrade, and secondly, can anyone recommend a suitable PC VST software that would allow me to get a reasonable (Rock Rhythm) guitar amp sound from a midi input?.

    Many thanks for your time
    Ric

    Hello Ric,

depending on your material, Melodyne's audio-to-MIDI feature won't work right out of the box. Very likely you will have to tweak the note detection first. See this video for details. Remember that Melodyne will only export MIDI notes that are also available as blobs. So if you don't see blobs for all the notes that you can hear in the audio, then your MIDI file will obviously be incomplete as well. A correct note assignment is therefore crucial.
