Melodyne essential
|
|
Whenever I open the Melodyne plugin in garageband, when I try to change the pitch of notes in the usual way, rather than the note moving, the actual medolyne screen shifts about, and the note remains unchanged. e.g. when I try to change the pitch of a note, the Melodyne screen just shifts up and down, and similarly when I try to increase or decrease the length of a note, the Melodyne screen just shifts left or right. The actual note remains the same.
This is incredibly frustrating! I'm not working any differently to how I have done in the past. Is anyone else having this problem? If so, how do you make it stop?
Thanks

Hello dr332,
Which Melodyne edition and version is this? Which GarageBand version? What is your "usual way" of changing the pitch of notes? What exactly do you mean by a "shifting screen"? Have you got any screenshots for us?

Hi
It's Melodyne Essential, version 2.0.1. I'm using Garageband '11 version 6.0.4. As far as I'm aware these are the most up to date versions.
When I say the screen moves about, I don't mean the Garageband screen; when I open the Melodyne plugin within Garageband, a smaller Medloyne screen appears (which is where I edit notes) within the Garageband screen - this is the screen that moves about when I try to edit notes.
My usual way of editing the pitch of notes is to click on the note in question so it appears red, and then I would hold down the alt key (on mac) and drag the note up or down. You can do it without the alt key, but that just shifts the note a semitone either way (I've tried this without the alt key, and the Melodyne screen still moves), whereas holding alt down allows you to move the note to wherever you want. I'm guessing you already know this.
I hope this makes sense.
Thanks

I have encounted a similar problem when using my Apple Magic Track pad. When using the Plugin Melodyne Editor within GarageBand and try to click and drag to select notes, all you end up doing is dragging the Melodyne window rather than selecting notes. However, when using the stand alone version of Editor the problem does not occur. Instead of dragging the window around you can select notes.
I now avoid using Melodyne within GB, rather choosing to export uncompressed files from GB and dragging into the stand alone version, tweaking, saving as AIFF and dragging back into GB.
I have found GB to be flakey and unreliable as a host for Melodyne.
Cheers. ML.

I too have the exact same experience with GarageBand and Editor 2.0.1. The 1.3 did work flawless but the 2.0.1 doesn't work at all since holding the mouse down anywhere in the plug-in window will only move the plug-in window itself around and do nothing else. I thought GB was left out but perhaps it's a bug after all. I don't need to use GB so I didn't mentioned it, I only thought of the poor luck people who have used GB with v1.3 and go and buy the $99 upgrade only to find out that it doesn't work at all. This means that 'progress' is in fact going backwards and you must download and run the Trial version before upgrading and paying. Using GarageBand 6.0.1 & Editor 2.0.1 I didn't change anything, I just installed the upgrade (from the old working version to the new non-working version). That's serious business.

Edit: Make sure in GB you have solo'd the track with the audio you want to edit in Melodyne. Also, engage the loop bar and place it over the region of audio you want to export. 1. Choose Export to Disk. 2. Make sure the Compress box is unchecked. 3. Choose an easy place to save file to. I use my desk top (sometimes I create a dedicated folder as well) 4. After exporting, make sure you have saved your GB project and then exit the app, otherwise you engage the ReWire option which is pretty well useless with GB. 5. Open Melodyne in stand alone mode and create a new project. 6. Open your finder and literally drag the file you exported and placed in your chosen location into/onto the Melodyne window. Melodyne will automatically analyze the file for you. 7. Tweak to your hearts content... 8. When ready, choose the 'Save As' option and choose AIFF. Melodyne will process the file and put it in the location you choose. (Make sure you save your current work as a Melodyne project file in case you want to come back to it). 9. Exit Melodyne and open GB again. 10. Find the file you exported from Melodyne and drag it into the GB window. Done. Hope that helps. ML.

Hi
OK, thanks. I can do this, and the file opens in the stand alone version of Melodyne, but now it won't play and I can't hear anything?

Hi dr332. I am not sure what to say. I have not been using Melodyne for long so do not know its peculiarities. If there are blobs then there should be audio. You can check that there is audio by saving the file as AIFF in the save options and then double clicking the resulting file in your finder... it should open in iTunes (which is usually set as the default player for this file type). You can also check the file you exported from GB this way. Silly things to check are that you haven't muted anything by mistake during play back Cheers. ML.

Hi guys a few issues are mixed in this thread 1. Accidentally moving the plug-in windowThis problem was solved with a service release of Melodyne. Go to your myCelemony account and download a new version today. The installer still says version "2.0.1" but when you install it you can read in the Melodyne preferences that it is a new build: 2.0.1. 011, whereas before it was build 005. 2. Exporting compressed audio.
It is a very bad idea to export compressed audio. Always do it uncompressed. See my comments here3. Not hearing any Blobs
This is probably due to a wrong setting in Melodyne>Preferences>Audio. Please contact our support team, they will help you find the right setting. Best Stefan

Now Singletracks works with GarageBand again. I downloaded the installer and it works flawless as before, that was a relief. I read the instability report using multiple instances of Melodyne inside GB. I am running 4 instances without any problem. I haven't tried more than that (because there isn't much need for it) but if the 4 instances are stable, it's enough. Then it could be added as supported. There is also the option of adding 4 more tracks by means of Rewire so if 4 is good enough for Rewire, it's good enough for the plug-in. It is nevertheless a combination at an unbeatable price
