I managed to get the Bridge to work well in Reaper for Macs, but that app is new to me also. I have 5 tracks in the Reaper, one guitar not using Mel Bridge, and 4 vocal tracks all using MBridge. When I rendered the finished project, I got a lot of pops and clicks in the Rendered wav file that weren't there when I play it back from the multi-track version still open in Reaper.

The master track was well into the orange range, but not into the red, so I'm a bit stumped. From the Melodyne Manual I read that you can uncheck the fx MB plugin in the host app tracks and reduce the load on the cpu Ram and then still render etc, and still get the 'edited by MelBridge audio' into the rendered file. But I don't see how closing down the MB plugin fx on the tracks in the host app (Reaper) would still render the MBridge fx'd audio version of the vocals into the rendered wav file, even if MB app was still open. Will it do that?

Is there another reason why the rendered wav file is full of clicks and pops? I recorded and rendered in 16bit and checked the Noise Shaping option but not the Dither, as suggested in the Reaper Manual. I don't understand either of those options, but they said to do it that way for smoother results.

I just checked my MelBridge Preferences and I had both options checked - the fast playback and the use hardware etc. I've unchecked the fast playback option now. Would that account for the clicks and pops?

I'm using cre8 3.2.2 in Reaper for Mac on a MacBook Pro Dual Core 2.4 with 4gb of DDR2 ram and all other programs closed during rendering.

Thanks in advance for any tips or suggestions.

what are your buffer size settings?

    In Reaper for Mac:
Media buffer size 1200ms (default) 100% (default)
Checked = Anticipative Fxprocessing - superior multiprocessing
Render ahead size = 200ms (default)
Checked = Optimize buffering for low latency hardware (recommended)

I'm using a Tascam US 122 USB soundcard with Sample Rate 44100, Resolution 24 Bit with an Audio Safety Buffer set at 2ms (available range = 1ms - 5ms).

I couldn't find any buffer info in my Mel Bridge Preferences.

But I did see in MelBridge preferences that the Bridge has under Recording:
File format = AIFF 16bit linear PCM
while I'm using WAV 16bit to record in the host Reaper - would that cause any conflict?

    Hello Carol,

    is this an ASIO driver?

The Tascam has ASIO drivers, but I checked everywhere in Reaper for Mac and can't find anywhere where a choice of driver is offered. I always use the ASIO drivers on my Reaper for PC so I assume it's doing the same on my Mac.

I've checked my before and after render files and before the render, the audio is perfect in Reaper, and perfect in Melodyne using the Bridge as slave, but after I render it to WAV the rendered audio is full of artificial clicks and some of the Melodyne edits haven't been included in the rendering process. When I listen again to the audio that was rendered still open in Reaper and MBridge that is still perfect.

I increased the buffer of the Tascam to 4ms (range 1ms - 5ms) but it hasn't made any difference. I also reduced the 'Resample mode if needed' in Reaper to 'good 64 pt' from 'better 192 pt' and that made no difference either.

I unchecked the Noise Shaping option this time, and neither renders used Dither, but that didn't help either.

    Hey Carol.

I'm not familiar with Reaper, but perhaps you need to increase this setting?

Please monitor your CPU usage during the rendering process (see Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor). Do you see a high CPU load?

And finally, some users experience problems with audio software in general because they have their network cards, WLAN, Bluetooth etc. enabled. Disabling them temporarily might also lead to a solution. Could you please try?

    Hello Carol,

another idea: Have you tried the Melodyne plugin?

Update: I started the recording again from scratch because when I started the original recording above, I'd tried to use Rewire in Reaper for Macs right at the start - I couldn't get it to work properly (my first try) and when I tried to get rid of it, it wouldn't go away completely - it kept telling me that files were missing but the audio was being kept. I thought that might have been the problem, but that wasn't it, because when I redid the whole thing and rendered it again it still had clicks and pops.

This second time, I increased the Render Ahead size to 400 (from default 200) in Reaper preferences, and watched the render in Apps>utilities>activity monitor for CPU useage. Before rendering, nothing clipped in Reaper at all, but during the render.....it blasted away at +10db and the cpu useage was off the chart. It didn't do that the first time with the render ahead size at default 200 - it didn't go into the red during render, but still had the pops and clicks.

I have no idea why the above happened, but.......before doing this reaper render I imported all the tracks into the Mel Bridge, not just the vox tracks, worked out how to use GarageBand Au effects in Mel Bridge, saved audio as stereo mix wav file and.....perfect. I converted the wav to mp3 using the Switch app and still perfect - well, the recording anyway, the vox tracks, not so sure. :)

From now on I'll just stick to using the cre8 directly, but I'm letting you know what happened in case it's useful. I'd also be quite interested to know what is going on in Reaper using Mel Bridge - I wasted about two weeks on this.
