I am running Pro Tools HD 9.0.6 on an i7 2.93 GHz quad-core Hackintosh tower. I own the latest Melodyne Editor plugin 2.0.1 and old faithful Melodyne Studio 3.2.2.2. I had a few vocal tracks to tune up, and decided to try out the plugin. For all the improvements, it is a total vibe-slayer for a very few reasons that could easily be fixed. But after reading this forum, users have been complaining about these things for YEARS and nothing is done. I went back to my old standard way of transferring tracks into Studio with the Bridge, and I can edit TEN times faster in studio than the plugin. Here's why:

    1. Zoom views are not large enough in the plugin. Once you have a four-minute vocal track loaded in, you can't expand the time-axis enough to see the notes. Not a problem in Studio.

    2. Pitch Correction. My typical way to work is to select the whole track (or smaller section, like a verse) and go for broke and correct everything 100% center and drift. Then I listen to it and see where the errors are in note separation and detection. Most of the time, there are not enough separations, and this causes the errors. Once I add in the separations, I need to re-correct the notes and this is where Studio KICKS ASS over Plugin, because Studio REMEMBERS your 100% Pitch and Center settings and Plugin does not. Command-Option-P, done. Bang, bang, I'm through the entire track in about half an hour, maybe an hour tops. Like another user said years ago, this forces HUNDREDS of extra mouse clicks with the Plugin. This could EASILY be avoided with a preference for Pitch Correction, but that doesn't seem to be a priority for the designers.

    3. Multi-track capability of Studio: I often tune a lead vocal and double track. With the plugin, I can only do the pitch, and the time alignment has to be done with elastic audio, which is very clunky. But in Studio, I can do both, because I can view them in the same window! And the time correction tools are genius. And sound great. I don't need VocAlign, I do it manually TEN times faster. Also, its easy to see harmonic dissonance, and fix errors in backing vocals when all the tracks are on the same view.

The Studio App is absolutely brilliant, and my feature request is to add all the amazing new features of the plugin 2.0 (polyphonic algorithm, etc.) to Studio.

When is this going to be done???

And PLEASE, don't change the 100% setting. Or give a Preference for a default.

And let me Beta test it, because I'll give you VALID feedback on ACTUAL workflow usage, and what's really important to users.

Once again, please understand that I LOVE your products, and wish to help you understand how to make them better.

    Hello Lou,

    Thanks for your detailed post.

Melodyne editor has actually quite advanced zooming options. Perhaps you have not discovered them yet? See here, for example.

Thank you for your suggestions. There are quite a number of Zoom features I didn't know about. Unfortunately, the inability to pre-set the Pitch Correction and Drift, and having to manually set it each time slows me down SO much that I simply cannot use the plugin in any productive way. If and when this option is added, I will consider learning the rest of the features.
