Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the only way to save audio-to-midi is in the stand-alone version. You cannot export midi from the plugin itself. So how does one deal with this limitation?

For example, say I'm working on a polyphonic guitar part in a song, and want to eventually double that with a midi synth. While in Logic I open Melodyne editor as a plugin, have it analyze the audio, and I fix all the misreading of harmonics / notes in the part, and edit the guitar part as required (fix the pitch of a few notes, change the timing of some notes, etc).

I would like to now save this as a midi track, but I cannot do this in the plugin. So, in order to go from Melodyne plugin to Melodyne stand alone, I have to export the audio, have Melodyne standalone analyze it again, re-fix all of Melodyne harmony / overtone reading errors, just to save what I already created in the plugin as a midi file! Seems like much unnecessary work, especially having to re-fix Melodyne plugins analysis when I already had the PERFECT midi file in the plugin!

Either we need the ability to export midi from the plugin, or we need the ability to "save" our Melodyne plugin information and open it in Melodyne editor stand alone.

Thanks for the amazing program and the forum to provide feedback on how to make it even better!

Yes, that's correct. There are certain technical limitations for plug-ins. At the moment, your workaround is the only way.

That is a real shame! At least with the older Melodyne versions I had the option to use Melodyne bridge, and still be able to save midi. Now with Melodyne editor & polyphonic material, I no longer have this option. With polyphonic material midi export is even MORE important, as it simply takes too much time reanalyzing the performance and adjusting for Melodyne's "mistakes" in analyzing the part in stand alone mode.

Thus my suggestion for the ability to save a Melodyne analyzation from the plugin, and open it in the stand alone version. I would think this would be possible, as I can save plugin settings & presets in daw plugins no problem, and even with the instruments I use as plugin and stand alone, I can save a patch in the plugin, and open it in stand alone just fine. Hopefully you will be able to implement such functionality, as it very important IMO.

I think I have found an easier way around this problem. Do your edits as you normally would within the plug in, then export the audio file as a wav with the plug in turned on. Once you have done that, open the standalone app and bring in the wav file. This version of the audio file should have your previous changes already present, and you can export as MIDI. Hope this helps.

    Hello Remergence,

Welcome to our forum and thanks for your suggestion, but your workaround is not necessary any more. This thread was opened shortly after the very first launch of Melodyne editor back in 2009. We have updated Melodyne since, and added MIDI export directly from the plug-in. Have a look at the Settings > Save as MIDI menu. See also here for details.
